Sredojevic: I would give my life to win Soweto derby

Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic has jokingly admitted that he would happily give his life for his side to beat Kaizer Chiefs in Saturday’s Soweto derby, writes DEAN WORKMAN.

Pirates and Chiefs will do battle in the 166th edition of the Soweto derby at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Sredojevic guided the Buccaneers to three consecutive wins over Amakhosi in 2018 with Steven Komphela and Giovanni Solinas at the helm.

This weekend, however, Pirates will face a Chiefs side who have show notable improvement under Ernst Middendorp although results have not been consistent.

The Serbian coach is braced for a tough few days as Pirates do battle in the derby before flying to Tunisia to take on the defending Caf Champions League victors Esperance.

Sredojevic jokingly admitted at a press conference on Thursday that he would gladly give his life should his side claim all three points against their rivals.

‘You go in both matches (Chiefs and Esperance) to throw everythin in that you can but we do not think about any match ahead of the Kaizer Chiefs game.

‘As I like to say if god tells me you would die at the end of the match and Pirates would win, I would accept that.

‘I would give my life for that because honour and privilege of serving the people and having the biggest power given by god to make millions of people happy. This is something that is priceless and gives us a special feeling inside,’ concluded Sredojevic.
