South Africa need a response after their Mexico defeat, and Relebohile Mofokeng will be the player to lead it, writes Lukhanyo Gqokoma.
Last week exposed exactly where Bafana Bafana are falling short, but this is a chance to reset and show a different edge in attack. If South Africa are going to take a step forward, it will likely come through creativity in the final third, and Mofokeng is the player best suited to provide it.

The lack of connection between midfield and attack against Mexico left the front line isolated for long periods. Too often, possession went sideways or broke down before reaching dangerous areas. Mofokeng changes that dynamic. He is comfortable receiving the ball between the lines, turning under pressure and carrying it into spaces where defenders are forced to react.
Czechia are expected to be organised and physically strong at the back, but they were troubled by quick combinations and sharp movement in their opening game. That is exactly where Mofokeng thrives, linking short passes and driving forward to disrupt defensive shape.
Even in a difficult team performance against Mexico, his ability to find pockets and attempt progressive actions stood out. With more support around him in this match, especially from wide areas and Iqraam Rayners ahead of him, he should have far more influence in the attacking phase.

This feels like a game where South Africa need someone to take responsibility in possession and set the tone in advanced areas. Mofokeng has the skill set, the confidence, and the freedom in this setup to do exactly that.
If Bafana are going to produce a statement performance, do not be surprised if it comes through him.
