Doctor Khumalo lands new SAFA role

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo has landed an interesting new gig at SAFA.

Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo has landed a major administrative role after being named vice-chairperson of the SAFA Technical Committee.

The 1996 Africa Cup of Nations winner had his appointment ratified during Sunday’s National Executive Committee meeting in Sandton, where he will deputise for Jack Maluleke.

The Technical Committee plays a massive role behind the scenes, tasked with overseeing coaching development, national team performance, and youth structures across the country.

Khumalo, alongside Maluleke, will be heavily involved in reviewing coaching programmes, scouting talent, and helping align South African football with modern international standards.

The 59-year-old transitions into national governance after previous stints on the bench as Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach, as well as serving as technical director at Baroka FC.

Khumalo also spent some time in the Kaizer Chiefs youth structures over a decade ago, however his official position was never revealed. During the recent past, the Amakhosi legend has been employed by SABC, acting as an analyst covering local football.

The former Bafana Bafana midfielder earned over 50 caps for his country, and if he does half as good a job in his new role as he did on the pitch, he will undoubtedly prove to be a massive asset for SAFA.
