No green jersey for Bafana at World Cup

FIFA has confirmed the kit colours for all 72 group stage fixtures at the 2026 World Cup - and Bafana Bafana will not wear their away jersey in any of their three Group A matches.

South Africa’s green away jersey will stay in the kit bag for the entire group stage.

The South African reports that FIFA have confirmed the planned match colours for all 72 group stage fixtures this week – and Bafana Bafana will line up in yellow for each of their three Group A encounters.

The decision comes down to colour clash regulations that require a clear visual contrast between competing teams, match officials and broadcasters – with particular consideration given to supporters with colour-vision deficiencies.

The logic is straightforward when you look at the opponents. Mexico wear green as their primary colour – making Bafana’s green away kit an immediate clash. Against the Czech Republic, Bafana will combine yellow jerseys with green shorts and yellow socks – a slight variation on their standard look.

Beyond the colours, every kit at the tournament will carry the official FIFA World Cup 2026 badge on the right sleeve. The left sleeve rotates through social impact messages – “Unite for Peace” during the group stage, “Unite for Education” in the knockout rounds and “Football Unites the World” for the bronze medal match and final.

Squad numbers follow the same regulations as previous tournaments. Numbers run from 1 to 26 with the goalkeeper’s shirt reserved exclusively for number 1.

For Bafana fans heading to Mexico, Atlanta and Guadalupe – pack yellow.
