Domingo, Sirino and Morris fire City to crucial Confed Cup win

Durban City FC earned an impressive 3-1 victory in the CAF Confederation Cup's second preliminary round on Sunday.

Durban City FC returned to CAF Confederation Cup action on Sunday afternoon when they hosted Mauritian side AS Port-Louis 2000 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Fresh off their derby loss against AmaZulu during the week, City were desperate to pick up their first win under new coach Eric Tinkler.

City booked their place in the second preliminary round by seeing off Burkina Faso’s Rukinzo while their opponents earned an impressive victory over Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy in the first round.

Haashim Domingo gave the hosts the lead in the 16th minute when his powerful strike from inside the box was deflected into the top corner.

Immediately after half-time, Gaston Sirino doubled his side’s advantage with a superb solo goal down the left flank, bypassing two defenders before calmly placing the ball into the bottom corner.

The visitors managed to pull one back in the 53rd minute however Tashreeq Morris’ 93rd minute penalty kick put any hopes of resurgence to bed.

City’s 3-1 win this afternoon means they head to Mauritius next weekend for the second-leg with a firm grip on proceedings.

The winner from the two-legged tie will successfully book their spot in the 2026 CAF Confederation Cup group stages.
