Durban City have officially learned their CAF Confederation Cup group stage fate following the official draw on Wednesday afternoon in Cairo.
The KwaZulu-Natal outfit earned their spot among the big boys after navigating two tricky preliminary rounds in impressive fashion.
City got their campaign underway by putting away Burundian side Rukinzo FC 3-1 on aggregate in the first preliminary round, before brushing aside AS Port-Louis 2000 of Mauritius 6-1 on aggregate in the second preliminary round.
City drawn in CAFCC’s Group B
Their reward is a tough assignment in Group B, where they have been drawn alongside Moroccan heavyweights AS FAR Rabat, Tanzanian outfit Azam FC, and Libyan powerhouse Al Ahly Tripoli.
Let’s take a look at the group details in full:
Group A: Al Ahly, Raja Csabalanca, Asko De Kara and 1 de Agosto.
Group B: AS Far, Azam FC, Al Ahli Tripoli and Durban City.
Group C: Playoff winner, AS Maniema, Singida Black Stars and Red Arrows FC
Group D: USM Alger, CS Sfaxien, Black Bulls and AS Real De Bamako.
The group stage campaign is set to get underway on the weekend of 27-29 November 2026, giving Eric Tinkler and his charges a month to prepare before taking on their Group B rivals across six matchdays running through to late January 2027.
Beyond the continental prestige, reaching this stage comes with a massive financial boost. Securing a spot in the group phase guarantees Durban City a minimum pay-day of around R12.3 million, while the eventual tournament champions will walk away with a massive R35 million cheque.
Kaizer Chiefs unfortunately will not be joining City in the group stages, after they crashed out of the competition at the second preliminary round stage.
