Sundowns on track to qualify for 2025 FIFA Club World Cup

Mamelodi Sundowns are currently on track to qualify for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

The new expanded edition of the competition will see 32 teams from across the world face-off as a prelude for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Each association was given an allocation of teams with UEFA(Europe) receiving 12, CONMEBOL(South America) receiving six, CAF(Africa), CONCACF(Northern America) and AFC(Asia) all receiving four and both the host association and OFC(Oceania) receiving one.

There will be two routes to qualification for the four African teams with Sundowns having a good opportunity via both.  The first spot will awarded to the winner of the CAF Champions League, with Sundowns currently set to face Tanzanian side Simba SC in the quarterfinals.

The second route to qualification will be African club rankings.  The top ranked teams will earn a place at the tournament with Sundowns currently ranked as the third best team on the continent.

There are two qualification spaces available after Al Ahly(Egypt) and Wydad Athletic Club(Morocco) already secured qualification due to their recent CAF Champions League wins.
