TUT 1-0 UFS
TUT opened their account for the season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over defending champions UFS in Bloemfontein, a result that also condemned the Kovsies to back-to-back home defeats.
Chances were scarce in the first half, with the closest moment coming when goalkeeper Lethokuhle Makhaya denied a TUT effort with a fine save late on. The breakthrough came after the restart, when TUT pressed with more intent and were awarded a penalty following a mistake in the UFS box.
Captain Lucky Raphala stepped up and converted calmly to settle the match, with Tshiamo Rantho named Player of the Match.
UFS pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but couldn’t find the finish needed. The defending champions now prepare to host Wits next Friday in Bloemfontein.
UP-Tuks 0-1 UWC
UWC bounced back from last week’s draw with a 1-0 win away at UP-Tuks, who missed a golden early chance when Gennaro Johnson saved Relebohile Matima’s fifth-minute penalty.
The game stayed goalless until the 68th minute, when substitute Tyrese Davids raced onto a counter-attack and calmly lifted the ball over the advancing keeper.
UP-Tuks pushed hard for a leveller but couldn’t find a way through, with UP-Tuks’ Lebogang Mswane named Player of the Match despite the defeat.
Wits 3-0 UL
Wits were dominant from start to finish, with Mxolisi Mthiya opening the scoring from the penalty spot in the 16th minute. Tebogo Masemola doubled the lead just after the restart, and UL were reduced to ten men in the 91st minute when Maano Paswana was sent off for a challenge on captain Kgwadi Molepo.
Substitute Thato Putswane added a third deep into stoppage time to complete the rout, with Kaihil Thierry Cloete named Player of the Match.
DUT 0-1 UJ
UJ made the early running count, with Tshepo Mosieleng converting in the 12th minute to settle a game DUT never quite recovered from.
DUT were given a route back into it when they won a penalty in the 83rd minute, but Nkululeko Nkosi couldn’t convert, and both sides finished the match with ten men after red cards in the closing stages.
UJ held on for the win, with Sinenhlanhla Mkhonza named Player of the Match.
