Salah was left out of Jürgen Klopp’s starting XI for the Group A match and was introduced in the 68th minute. He scored in the 75th, 80th and 81st minutes, taking the score from 3-1 to 6-1, with just six minutes and 12 seconds between his first and third goals.

That beat the eight minutes Lyon’s Bafétimbi Gomis took against Dinamo Zagreb in 2011, a record that had stood for more than a decade. All three goals were set up by the late Diogo Jota.
The first was prodded in from an angle, the second came after he stopped the ball and beat two defenders, and the third was a sweeping finish from the edge of the box. Harvey Elliott then scored his first Champions League goal to complete the 7-1 win.
The hat-trick took Salah to 38 Champions League goals for Liverpool, the most for any player at a single Premier League club, past the totals of Chelsea’s Didier Drogba and Manchester City’s Sergio Agüero.

He was also only the third Liverpool substitute to score a hat-trick, after Steve Staunton in 1989 and Steven Gerrard in 2010. “Typical Mo,” Klopp said afterwards.
The record still stands. Kylian Mbappé came closest, scoring a treble in six minutes and 42 seconds for Real Madrid at Olympiacos in November 2025.
