Liverpool and Chelsea dominate Premier League spending list

Liverpool and Chelsea account for four of the five most expensive Premier League signings since summer 2016.

The five transfers are worth a combined £589.5m, with Manchester City the only other club represented.

Alexander Isak leads the list following his £125m move from Newcastle United to Liverpool last season.

Chelsea’s new signing Morgan Rogers sits second after completing a £117m move from Aston Villa.

Liverpool appear again in third place with Florian Wirtz, who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen for £116.5m.

Manchester City midfielder Elliot Anderson is fourth following his £116m move from Nottingham Forest, while Chelsea’s £115m signing of Moises Caicedo completes the top five.

Four of the deals have taken place since the beginning of last season. Caicedo’s move from Brighton to Chelsea in 2023 is the only transfer on the list completed before then.

Liverpool have spent £241.5m on Isak and Wirtz, while Rogers and Caicedo cost Chelsea a combined £232m.

The arrival of Rogers and Anderson this month has pushed both players straight into the top five as Premier League spending continues to rise.
