While talks are described as progressing positively, the deal has not yet been finalised in time for Saturday’s fixtures. The SABC says it remains committed to concluding the agreement as soon as possible and expects to begin Betway Premiership coverage from 15 August, pending its successful conclusion.
There was better news on a separate front, with the broadcaster confirming it has reached agreement with CANAL+ to screen the 2026 MTN8 tournament free-to-air, continuing a competition South African audiences have followed on SABC in recent years.
Group CEO Nomsa Chabeli said the MTN8 deal means millions of viewers will again have access to one of the country’s leading domestic competitions, while expressing optimism that the broader Betway Premiership discussions will be wrapped up soon.
CANAL+ Africa and MultiChoice Group CEO David Mignot echoed that sentiment, noting the ongoing talks come during the PSL’s 30th anniversary season.
The SABC has thanked football fans for their patience while the remaining details are finalised, and says it remains focused on delivering South African football to audiences nationwide once the agreement is in place.
