One win in six leaves Kaizer Chiefs far behind their rivals

Kaizer Chiefs' woeful form continued on Tuesday night at the FNB Stadium, where they were held to another frustrating draw against Stellenbosch.

Kaizer Chiefs started the season brightly under new coach Fernando Da Cruz, but the wheels are well and truly coming off at Naturena.

Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch at the FNB Stadium means Chiefs have now won just one match in their last six league outings, sharing the spoils in the other five.

What makes it even more painful for the Amakhosi faithful is looking across at their rivals. While Chiefs are struggling, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are soaring at the top of the table, pulling further and further away.

Kaizer Chiefs’ slump continues

The visitors took the lead early in the second half through Sinoxolo Kwayiba in the 48th minute, but Mduduzi Shabalala levelled matters 10 minutes later with a neat finish after bypassing his marker in the box.

The Amakhosi pushed hard for a winner in the closing exchanges, but it was not to be as Stellies held firm at the Calabash.

Last six results in the Betway Premiership

In their last six league matches, Kaizer Chiefs have managed just one victory while sharing the spoils in five draws, dropping 10 crucial points out of a possible 18 in the process.

That run started with a hard-fought 1-1 stalemate against Mamelodi Sundowns and a chaotic 2-2 draw away at Richards Bay, before finally securing their sole win with a narrow 3-2 thriller against Siwelele.

However, any momentum gained from that victory quickly evaporated into a frustrating sequence of stalemates, a 1-1 draw against Polokwane City, a drab 0-0 stalemate with Golden Arrows, and Tuesday’s latest 1-1 deadlock against Stellenbosch at the FNB Stadium.

That massive slump in form means they are now sitting a whopping nine points behind Sundowns and eight behind Pirates already. Even AmaZulu, who are flying high in third place, have managed to pull five points clear of the Amakhosi.
