The Betway Premiership returned on Wednesday evening with four exciting fixtures taking place across the country.
Following Orlando Pirates’ victory earlier in the week, the pressure shifted directly onto Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs as they stepped into action.
While Sundowns managed to pick up three points, the Glamour Boys on the other hand dropped points for the second consecutive match.
Wednesday’s Betway Premiership results
Despite playing some enterprising football at the Princess Magogo Stadium, Kaizer Chiefs were forced to come from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw against Richards Bay.
The Natal Rich Boys opened the scoring as early as the 8th minute through Nqaba Xulu after capitalizing on a Brandon Petersen howler. However, the Glamour Boys hit back almost immediately through a Lebohang Maboe penalty.
With five minutes left before the half-time break, Xulu completed his brace with a well-taken header to restore his side’s lead.
In the 77th minute, Siphesihle Ndlovu found the all-important equalizer for Chiefs, clinically finishing off Asanele Velebayi’s cut-back from the centre of the box. And that’s how it ended, a share of the spoils in KwaMashu.
In the capital, Mamelodi Sundowns earned a thrilling 5-2 victory over AmaZulu FC at Loftus. Braces by Brayan Leon and Teboho Mokoena, coupled with a close-range finish from Tashreeq Matthews, was enough to see off Thulani Ngwenya’s brace on the night.
The victory sends Mamelodi Sundowns back to the top of the table, trailing leaders Orlando Pirates only on goal difference.
Elsewhere in Durban, Junior Dion’s strike earned Golden Arrows a 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch while Polokwane City and Milford FC played out to a goalless draw at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Limpopo.
