Senegalese superstar Sadio Mane has been ruled out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup following scans to his leg.
Mane was forced to leave the field during Bayern Munich’s 6-1 demolition job of Werder Bremen on Tuesday, and subsequent scans have shown that the forward’s injury is worse than expected.
The forward went down clutching his leg in the 22nd minute before being replaced by Leroy Sane, with the injury believed to be sustained to his tibia.
Dino Toppmoller, Bayern’s assistant coach, first believed the injury to be not “too serious”, but manager Julian Nagelsmann was not as optimistic, suggesting scans be the course of action to determine the extent of the injury.
“He got hit on the top of the tibia, which is always uncomfortable. He needs to have an X-ray to look whether there is anything bad because this part easily splinters. We hope that it’s nothing,” Nagelsmann said after the clash.
Now, a report that surfaced on Wednesday from French outlet L’Equipe, claims the ex-Liverpool man will not be heading to Qatar for the World Cup, in what will be a big blow for the Senegalese football team and their chances of success at the tournament.
Since moving from Liverpool to Bayern Munich, Mane has scored six goals and made three assists in 14 appearances for the German giants.
