Marumo Gallants finally registered their first Betway Premiership victory of the season after edging Siwelele FC 3-2 in an entertaining five-goal thriller at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Friday night.
The home side got off to a flying start when Samkele Sihlali opened the scoring in the seventh minute, rising highest to head home from close range.
Siwelele pulled level midway through the first half when debutant Raymond Makhuvele powered home a header, but Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo restored Gallants’ lead shortly before the break with a well taken finish.
Sihlali then completed his brace four minutes into the second half with another clever finish to give the home side a two-goal cushion.
Vincent Pule brought Siwelele right back into the contest ten minutes later with a brilliant free-kick reducing the deficit to 1 goal and in the process, setting up a tense finish in Rustenburg.
Gallants however managed to hold firm through the closing stages and secure a long-awaited three points, ending their eight-match winless run!
The victory means they move off the foot of the table, two points ahead of Richards Bay while Siwelele remain in 14th position, just a solitary point ahead of Gallants.
