Kaizer Chiefs earned a much-needed victory on Tuesday evening after defeating TS Galaxy 3-0 in their Carling Knockout Last 16 clash at FNB Stadium.
Heading into the tie under immense pressure following a five-match winless streak, Fernando Da Cruz’s side responded emphatically in front of their home supporters.
After a tightly contested and goalless first-half, Wandile Duba delivered a masterclass performance in the second period, netting a sensational 18-minute hat-trick to blow The Rockets away.
Duba opened the scoring in the 48th minute, finding the bottom corner after meeting Pule Mmodi’s cut-back following a sweet team move down the right flank.
The Amakhosi attacker then completed his brace in the 63rd minute, reacting quickest in the box to fire home the rebound after Mfundo Vilakazi’s penalty kick was saved by Melusi Mathebula.
Just three minutes later, Duba sealed his hat-trick with an expert finish into the bottom corner after being played through by Mduduzi Shabalala.
That’s how it ended in Soweto, with Kaizer Chiefs booking their place in the quarter-finals. TS Galaxy on the other hand are officially eliminated from the league cup this season.
