UFS will look to reignite their Varsity Football title defence when they host Wits in Bloemfontein on Friday, having lost back-to-back matches to open the campaign, including a 1-0 defeat to TUT last week.
Goalkeeper Lethokuhle Makhaya believes the club’s history offers reason for confidence.

“We’ve been in this position before, and we understand that the pressure is always there,” he said, pointing to last season, when UFS also opened with two defeats before going on to win the title.
He described the TUT loss as frustrating but not a reflection of poor play. “We played good football but lacked the final touch. Against Wits, we need to take the chances we create so we can get those three points.”
Kick-off at Shimla Park is scheduled for 17:00.
