Terrence Mashego is the highest-profile success story of Varsity Football, with the defender becoming a regular in the PSL after his time at TUT.
He went on to win three Betway Premiership titles with Mamelodi Sundowns and has earned more than 10 caps for Bafana Bafana, including a place in the squad that won bronze at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
After a productive loan spell at Durban City last season, where he won the Nedbank Cup, he now plays for Stellenbosch FC.
Recruitment straight off tournament success has become common too. Baroka signed goalkeeper Sikhumbuzo Ncube and defender Vusi Sibiya after their TUT title win in 2018, while UWC’s Leandro De Sousa and TUT trio Ronald Mabaso, Thite Mabilo and Tshiamo Mahome all earned contracts at Pretoria Callies in 2023.
More recently, DUT’s Nhlakanipho Ngwenya has just signed for TS Galaxy, while UFS striker Omphemetse Athibeng is attracting interest from multiple clubs after his heroics in the 2025 final.
