The incident occurred during training on Thursday, with tempers understood to have first flared on Wednesday before a further disagreement escalated the situation. Valverde sustained a cut to his head after hitting a table and required a hospital visit. He described it on social media as a “meaningless fight” and insisted no punches were thrown, adding that “everything has been blown out of proportion.”

Tchouameni returned to training on Friday and issued a public apology. “What happened this week in training is unacceptable,” he wrote. “I say this while thinking about the example we are expected to set for young people, whether in football or at school. Above all, I am sorry for the image we projected of the club.”
The timing is damaging. Real Madrid face Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday, with the Catalans needing just one point to clinch the La Liga title. Madrid face a second consecutive campaign without a major trophy, with questions growing inside the club about the direction of the squad.
Valverde missed Friday’s training session. Whether he features on Sunday remains unclear.
