Spain’s remarkable record with Lamine Yamal in the side shows no sign of ending, extending to 29 games without defeat after a dramatic 3-2 comeback win over England at Wembley in their opening UEFA Nations League fixture.
Since his senior debut in September 2023, Spain have never lost a single match in which Yamal has started, a run of 23 wins and 6 draws. The streak has held firm through Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph and this summer’s World Cup win, with Yamal starting every one of the country’s knockout matches at both tournaments, and Saturday’s game marking the first time La Roja have played since lifting the trophy in July.

Yamal wasted little time making his mark against England, capitalising on a defensive mix-up from Marc Guéhi inside the opening two minutes to race through and finish coolly past James Trafford.
England hit back through Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane to lead 2-1 at the break, only for Spain to complete the turnaround in the second half.
Álex Baena levelling the scores before substitute Mikel Oyarzabal struck the winner in the 74th minute, with Kane also missing a penalty off the crossbar that could have put England further ahead.

The result also extended Spain’s overall unbeaten run, regardless of who starts, to 39 consecutive matches, a record for a European national team. For Yamal individually, it’s another significant marker in what has already been an extraordinary rise, with the 19-year-old also enjoying a strong start to his club season, contributing eight goals and six assists in just eight competitive appearances for Barcelona so far this term.
