England 3-2 Mexico
Jude Bellingham scored twice in 98 seconds to put England 2-0 up inside 38 minutes at the Estadio Azteca, before Julian Quinones halved the deficit before half-time. England were reduced to 10 men on 54 minutes when Jarell Quansah saw red after a VAR review, but Harry Kane’s penalty restored their two goal cushion.
Mexico were awarded a penalty of their own for a foul by Kane, and Raul Jimenez converted to set up a tense finish. England held on for a 3-2 win and will face Norway in the quarter-finals in Miami.
Norway 2-1 Brazil
Erling Haaland scored twice in the final 11 minutes to send Norway into their first ever World Cup quarter-final, ending Brazil’s hopes of a sixth title.
Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland was outstanding throughout, saving a first half penalty from Bruno Guimaraes before Haaland headed Norway in front and then added a second from the edge of the box.
Neymar converted a stoppage time penalty in what proved to be the final act of his international career, but it was not enough to prevent Brazil’s earliest World Cup exit since 1990. Haaland’s brace moved him level with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe on seven tournament goals.
