Spain 1-0 Uruguay
Uruguay’s World Cup ended in heartbreak after goalkeeper Fernando Muslera’s error gifted Spain a 1-0 win in Guadalajara, sealing top spot in Group H.
Alex Baena’s weak shot squirmed through Muslera’s grasp for the only goal, sending two-time world champions Uruguay home as the highest-ranked side eliminated in the group stage. Spain remain unbeaten in 34 competitive matches and have yet to concede at this World Cup.
Cape Verde 0-0 Saudi Arabia
Cape Verde’s remarkable World Cup story continued as a third consecutive draw, this time against Saudi Arabia, secured second place in Group H and a last-32 meeting with Lionel Messi’s Argentina in Miami.
The archipelago nation of just over 500,000 people becomes the third-smallest country by population ever to reach the World Cup knockout rounds, having already held both Spain and Uruguay during the group stage.
