Argentina’s extra time win over Switzerland has added three fresh entries to Lionel Scaloni’s rowing list of records as Argentina coach.
He has become the most effective coach in the history of national team football among those with at least 100 matches in charge, boasting a win rate of 79.41 percent across 102 games, ahead of Vicente del Bosque’s 79.24 percent and Didier Deschamps’ 71.72 percent.

Scaloni has also become the first coach in history to win 15 consecutive qualifying series with a national team across all competitions, a run built on Argentina’s dominant form in South American World Cup qualifying and beyond.
Adding to that, he now holds the record for the most consecutive matches without defeat in cup competitions, whether World Cup, continental or international, extending that streak to 18 games in a row.
The numbers add further weight to what Scaloni has already achieved since taking charge in 2018, a Copa America title in 2021 that ended a 28 year wait for silverware, the 2022 Finalissima, the 2022 World Cup and a second Copa America crown in 2024.

Argentina’s slightly nervier route through this tournament, needing extra time against both Cape Verde and Switzerland, has not stopped Scaloni extending his remarkable record, one that now places him among the most statistically successful coaches the international game has ever seen.
