Julian Nagelsmann has resigned as Germany head coach after their World Cup campaign ended in a shock last-32 defeat to Paraguay. Nagelsmann had been under contract until Euro 2028 but agreed to the German Football Federation’s request that he step aside.
His exit reportedly clears the path for Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024 after winning the Premier League and Champions League. Klopp is currently Red Bull’s global head of football but is said to hold a release clause that would allow him to take the Germany job.

He remains a popular figure in the country and has worked as a TV pundit throughout the tournament.
Nagelsmann reportedly attended a three hour meeting at DFB headquarters on Thursday, where he was offered a severance package worth around seven million euros. Should the move be confirmed, he becomes only the second Germany coach to be dismissed, following Hansi Flick in 2023.

Germany lost to Paraguay on penalties after a 1-1 draw, their first World Cup shootout defeat, and have not won a knockout match since lifting the trophy in 2014.
