Messi hits new milestone under Scaloni’s Argentina reign

Argentina's golden partnership between Messi and Scaloni has produced another landmark moment following their 3-2 comeback win against Egypt last night.

Lionel Messi has reached 60 goals under Lionel Scaloni following his contribution against Egypt in the World Cup last 16, a tally built across 76 appearances since the coach took charge of Argentina in 2018.

Messi has also provided 23 assists in that time, underlining his influence at both ends of the pitch throughout the Scaloni era.

The partnership between the two has delivered four major trophies, the 2021 Copa America, the 2022 Finalissima, the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 Copa America, a run that ended a 28 year wait for a senior title and then kept the silverware coming.

Messi’s numbers under Scaloni now sit alongside a broader body of work that has seen Argentina lose just a handful of matches during his reign. With the pair still active at this World Cup, both the goal and trophy totals look likely to grow further before this Argentina squad is done.
