Second-half goals from Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele booked 2018 Champions France’s place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi finals with a 2-0 win against Morocco.
It seemed inevitable that France would be the side going through to the last four, with Morocco’s conservative approach favouring Didier Deschamps’ side. It went into the break even at 0-0, but Morocco failed to produce a single chance at goal and there was an energy that the French were in complete control even without possession.
After the break, Kylian Mbappe took his tally at the 2026 edition to eight, tying up with Lionel Messi at the top of the Golden Boot race, to make the breakthrough. It did not take long for the lead to double with Ballon d’Or holder Ousmane Dembele firing his shot past Bounou into the bottom corner to seal a 2-0 win.
