Every club in this season’s Champions League league phase faces eight opponents, but the financial strength of those opponents varies dramatically from team to team, according to analysis by Sportingpedia using current Transfermarkt squad values.
RB Leipzig have been handed the most valuable set of rivals in the competition, with their eight opponents worth a combined €5.26 billion.
Manchester City, Real Madrid and Manchester United alone account for roughly 73% of that figure, valued at €1.46 billion, €1.46 billion and €924.3 million respectively.

AEK Athens sit just behind on €5.14 billion, with Paris Saint-Germain third at €5.09 billion and Sabah rounding out the only four clubs whose opponents exceed €5 billion combined.
At the opposite end, Stuttgart face the cheapest set of opponents in the tournament at €2.61 billion, with Liverpool close behind at €2.94 billion and Bodø/Glimt at €3.41 billion.

That leaves a gap of €2.65 billion between Leipzig and Stuttgart, meaning Leipzig’s rivals are worth more than double those facing their fellow Bundesliga side.
The disparity shows up within individual leagues too. Manchester City’s opponents are valued €1.76 billion higher than Liverpool’s, despite both being Premier League sides, while Barcelona face €1.23 billion more in combined opponent value than fellow La Liga giants Real Madrid.

Sporting CP and Porto are separated by €1.15 billion, and Galatasaray’s rivals are worth just over €1 billion more than Fenerbahçe’s.
Squad value alone doesn’t determine how difficult a group is to navigate, since it takes no account of form, injuries, tactics or home advantage.
Even so, the numbers highlight just how unevenly the draw can fall. Across all 36 clubs, the average combined value of a side’s eight opponents sits at €4.15 billion, with the ten toughest draws averaging €4.95 billion compared to €3.44 billion for the ten easiest, a gap of roughly 44%.
