Champions League wrap: PSG thrash Bratislava, Liverpool fight back against Atleti

Ferran Torres scored a hat-trick as PSG opened their Champions League title defence in ruthless fashion, while Liverpool came from behind to beat Atletico and Arsenal ground out a win in Naples.

PSG 6-1 Slovan Bratislava

Ferran Torres struck a hat-trick and Ousmane Dembélé bagged a brace as holders PSG thrashed Yaya Touré’s Slovan Bratislava, opening their bid for a third straight Champions League title in style. Fabián Ruiz added a sixth, with Suleiman Camara netting a late consolation.

Liverpool 2-1 Atletico Madrid

Marcos Llorente’s dinked finish gave Atletico an early lead at Anfield, continuing his remarkable record against Liverpool, but Dominik Szoboszlai levelled before the break and Alexis Mac Allister’s second-half strike completed the comeback for Arne Slot’s side.

Napoli 0-1 Arsenal

Arsenal wasted several first-half chances in Naples before Martin Ødegaard settled it, combining with Christos Tzolis for a smart one-two and finishing off the far post with 15 minutes remaining to hand the reigning runners-up a hard-fought win.

Barcelona 5-1 Feyenoord

Raphinha scored twice as Barcelona cruised past Feyenoord, with Lamine Yamal’s free-kick and a late Gabriel Jesus header adding to the rout. Karim Adeyemi and Sem Steijn replied for the Dutch side, but Hansi Flick’s men remain unbeaten this season.

Stuttgart 3-1 Viking

Ermedin Demirović struck a first-half hat-trick as Stuttgart eased past Norwegian champions Viking, who were playing in the competition for the first time in 34 years, easing to a comfortable home win in their own league phase opener.

Galatasaray 1-3 Sporting

Sporting fought back in Istanbul to beat Galatasaray, building on last season’s run to the quarter-finals, their first since 1983, with a statement away win to open their league phase campaign on the front foot.
