Spurs sack Thomas Frank

Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank following a prolonged Premier League slide, according to The Athletic.

Spurs sit 16th in the table, five points above the relegation zone, after failing to win any of their last eight league matches and taking just two victories from 17. Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United proved to be Frank’s final game in charge.

Frank was appointed in June on a three-year contract to replace Ange Postecoglou, who oversaw Spurs’ worst Premier League campaign as they finished 17th despite lifting the Europa League to secure Champions League qualification. The Dane was tasked with stabilising the club domestically while maintaining European momentum.

While Tottenham reached the Champions League last 16 after finishing fourth in the league phase, league form never recovered. Spurs won only six of their opening 16 top-flight matches and suffered heavy defeats to Arsenal and Fulham early in the season. A poor start to 2026 included cup exits and further league setbacks, with supporters voicing frustration at home fixtures.

Despite brief resistance through draws against Burnley and Manchester City, defeats to Manchester United and Newcastle extended the downturn.

Tottenham invested heavily in the summer, signing Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus for a combined £114.1 million, alongside loan arrivals Joao Palhinha and Randal Kolo Muani. Injuries to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski disrupted attacking balance, while January additions Conor Gallagher and Souza failed to shift momentum.

Frank departs after seven years at Brentford and just seven months in north London. Spurs are now assessing replacement options as they fight to pull clear of the relegation battle.
