Slot furious with officials after Man United defeat

Liverpool boss Arne Slot questioned a pattern of officiating decisions after defeat at Manchester United, while admitting his side must also take responsibility.

The loss at Old Trafford made it 18 in all competitions, their worst record since Brendan Rodgers’ final season more than a decade ago. Slot, was not happy with the standard of officiating, or the performance of his side.

“Decisions have gone against us every single game,” Slot said. “The whole season it is the same. I don’t think it is a surprise anymore that when there is a VAR intervention, it goes against us.”

“Against PSG, VAR overturned a penalty for Alexis Mac Allister, and another week the same situation is given,” he said.

“Last week against Crystal Palace, our goalkeeper was down injured and they scored because the referee didn’t stop the game. Here, a player was off the field and the referee stopped it when we tried to continue.”

He also recalled a similar situation earlier in the season.

“When we played United before, I had a player needing stitches and the game didn’t stop. We conceded from that.”

Despite the criticism, Slot accepted responsibility for aspects within his control.

Poll: Who reaches the Champions League final?

“We have to first look at ourselves,” he said. “There is another pattern. We concede ridiculous goals when we are the better team. Players are switching off. That is something we can influence more than refereeing decisions.”

Slot insisted his focus will remain on improving those areas.
