Premier League clubs have spent £2.14 billion this summer transfer window, according to BBC Sport, with more than two weeks still to go before the deadline.
The figure already exceeds the totals for 2024, 2022, 2021 and 2020, and sits behind only 2023’s £2.36bn and last summer’s record £3.14bn.
The scale of the outlay dwarfs the rest of Europe. Serie A (£780m), La Liga (£515m), the Bundesliga (£505m) and Ligue 1 (£412m) combined still fall short of the Premier League’s total on their own.

Chelsea lead the way domestically with £348m spent, ahead of Tottenham (£228m), and Arsenal and Manchester City (£151m each). Chelsea, Tottenham and City have all broken their club transfer records this summer, while Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton, Leeds and all three promoted sides have also posted their most expensive signing ever.

A striking feature of the window is how much business is happening within the league itself. Almost £785m has been spent on transfers between Premier League clubs, with eight of the summer’s 12 biggest deals falling into that category.

The Big Six alone have paid £546.5m to sign players from the rest of the division, including Morgan Rogers’ British-record £117m move from Villa to Chelsea and Elliot Anderson’s £116m switch from Forest to City.
Taking receipts into account, the league’s net spend stands at £856m, still far ahead of any other major European division.
