Man Utd eyeing move for Ollie Watkins

Ollie Watkins has emerged as a potential option for Manchester United should Rasmus Hojlund leave the club this transfer window.

According to The Athletic, intermediaries have facilitated contact between United and Aston Villa, with Watkins viewed as a reliable Premier League goalscorer.

Although discussions remain exploratory, Watkins’ profile appeals to United’s recruitment team, with head coach Ruben Amorim keen to add players at their peak. Watkins, who scored 24 goals and assists in the league last season, is seen as a consistent top-flight performer.

The 28-year-old has three years left on his Villa contract and has hit double figures in each of the last five seasons. United previously considered him in 2023 before opting for the younger Hojlund.

While Hojlund has expressed a desire to stay, Inter Milan are among clubs showing interest, and United may be open to a sale below the striker’s book value to ease PSR pressure.

Aston Villa, navigating their own sustainability concerns, may entertain offers near the £60m mark for Watkins, a price that previously deterred Arsenal. The club has also explored selling other assets, including Emiliano Martinez and their women’s team.

United are prioritising a deal for Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford but continue to assess options. While no bid has been submitted for Watkins, the club’s openness to striker reinforcements reflects their intent to refresh Amorim’s squad ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. Further movement is expected as United generate funds through sales.
