Talks over an extension have broken down – with reports suggesting Liverpool offered approximately £250,000 per week while Konate’s camp were seeking £350,000 – a figure that would make him one of the highest-paid defenders in the world.
Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in July 2021 for €40 million and has gone on to become one of the most physically dominant centre backs in the Premier League.

At 1.94m, his combination of pace, aerial ability and raw power is rare at elite level. In five seasons at Anfield he won the FA Cup, two EFL Cups, a Community Shield and the Premier League title in 2024-25.
This season he made 34 Premier League appearances, contributing 1 goal and keeping 10 clean sheets. He also featured 8 times in the Champions League, again contributing 1 goal. Across all competitions he was one of Liverpool’s most consistent performers despite the club’s disappointing season overall.
Born in Paris, Konate came through the youth academies of Paris FC and Sochaux before joining RB Leipzig in 2017, where he developed into one of the most highly rated young defenders in Europe. He has earned 26 senior caps for France, having been part of the squad that reached the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar.
Real Madrid have been linked with Konate in previous windows and remain interested. A return to his home city with PSG – who head into next season as defending Champions League champions – would also represent an attractive option for the 26-year-old as he enters the peak years of his career.
