Premier League champions Liverpool have reportedly begun negotiations for Bayer Leverkusen star and Germany international Florian Wirtz.
The 22-year-old Bundesliga winner has been a key piece of Xabi Alonso’s reign at Leverkusen, starring in the side’s invincible title win in the 2023/24 season. Wirtz has long been linked with a move to German giants Bayern Munich but there has been a twist in the saga with Wirtz and his representatives travelling to England to hold talks with Arne Slot’s Reds.
🚨 Liverpool make contact with Florian Wirtz camp to express interest in signing playmaker if he leaves Bayer Leverkusen & is keen on moving to England. #LFC admiration long-standing but unclear whether 22yo plans to exit #Bayer04 or Germany @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/bi9i4bxa3g

Wirtz has had another stellar campaign in Germany despite Leverkusen’s drop in form from last season. So far the attacking midfielder has contributed 23 goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances and seven in the UEFA Champions League.
There has also been interest from competing Premier League clubs including Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City who are looking to rebuild after a poor season domestically and in European competition. Bayern and City have been the front runners for Wirtz’s signature but it now appears that Liverpool have joined the race and are very keen on securing the future of one of the world’s brightest talents.
[🚨] BREAKING: The destination in England was not Man City’s headquarters. Guardiola would have loved to welcome the Wirtz family there, but there was no appointment or meeting with the Wirtz and his parents. Instead the Wirtz family met with representatives of Liverpool
