Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored twice as Leeds United came from two goals down to beat Liverpool 4-2 in a pre-season friendly at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sunday, handing Andoni Iraola his first defeat since replacing the sacked Arne Slot at Anfield.
Liverpool looked comfortable at the break, leading through Luke Chambers, who converted after Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner was flicked on, and Florian Wirtz, who finished off a slick move involving Trey Nyoni and Jeremie Frimpong.
But Leeds turned the game on its head after the restart. Brenden Aaronson pulled one back in the 60th minute before Calvert-Lewin levelled 11 minutes later, heading in from an Ethan Ampadu long throw.
Sean Longstaff put Leeds ahead soon after, and Calvert-Lewin completed his brace late on with an almost identical finish from another Ampadu throw.
The result rounded off Leeds’ US tour, following an earlier 3-2 defeat to Wrexham and a 1-0 win over Sunderland. For Liverpool, it capped a mixed trip that also included wins over Sunderland and Wrexham, with Wirtz, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexander Isak all featuring after returning from World Cup duty.
