It did not take long for Liverpool to take the lead, with Cody Gakpo finding Isak in space in the Ipswich box. The Swede rocketed his shot off keeper Kjell Scherpen at the near post to make it 1-0 inside six minutes.

Just three minutes later, Isak scored his second. Again it was Gakpo who set the play with a neat outside the foot pass to Isak who fired low to beat Scherpen and make it 2-0.

The match then settled with Liverpool controlling possession and taking their lead into the break.
After the restart, Liverpool looked to have taken their foot off the gas and Ipswich began to assert themselves. A spirited attack in the final 30 minutes from the hosts never really tested Alisson in goal, but they did end the match with 14 shots to Liverpool’s 10 and had a higher xG of 0.73 to 0.66.
Besides earning just their second clean sheet in 14 matches, and their first of the season, there was a strong performance from Ronaldo Araujo who made his first Premier League start as well as a debut for big-money signing Bradely Barcola.
