Cunha handed iconic no.10 shirt at Manchester United

Manchester United have confirmed that new signing Matheus Cunha will wear the club’s no.10 shirt for the 2025/26 season.

The Brazilian forward completed his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers in June and reported to Carrington on Monday for the start of pre-season training.

Cunha, enjoyed a standout campaign with Wolves last season, scoring 15 goals in 33 appearances as the club avoided relegation. He wore the no.10 jersey at Molineux, having previously taken over the number from Daniel Podence.

The former Atlético Madrid and Hertha Berlin player also featured for Brazil during last month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, helping the Seleção secure their spot at the tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Cunha has a history with several different squad numbers across his career, including no.12 at Wolves and no.9 and no.19 during his spell in Spain. He wore no.10 for Hertha Berlin in the 2020/21 season.

The no.10 shirt holds iconic status in Brazilian football, made famous by legends such as Pelé, Zico, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Neymar.

Cunha becomes the latest player to inherit the number at United, following in the footsteps of club greats like Wayne Rooney, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Marcus Rashford.
