Chelsea captain Reece James has signed a new six-year contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032, extending his long-term commitment to the club, according to The Times. The England international’s previous deal was due to run until 2028.
The new agreement places James among a group of key Chelsea players whose contracts extend beyond 2030, including Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
James, 26, is a product of the club’s academy, having joined Chelsea at the age of six. Since making his senior debut, the defender has established himself as a central figure in the squad.
He has made 225 appearances for the club, scoring 16 goals and providing 31 assists. During that period, James has helped Chelsea win several trophies, including the UEFA Champions League in 2021, as well as the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Conference League.

James was appointed Chelsea captain in July 2023 following the departure of Cesar Azpilicueta.
In recent seasons the defender has faced injury setbacks, particularly recurring hamstring issues, which raised questions about his long-term fitness. Chelsea have therefore managed his minutes carefully, though he has remained an important part of the squad.
This season he has missed only three of Chelsea’s 27 Premier League matches.
The defender is also expected to play a role for England this summer under head coach Thomas Tuchel.
Chelsea currently sit fifth in the Premier League and are preparing for their upcoming league match against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.
