Arsenal close in on new Nwaneri deal

Arsenal are finalising a new long-term contract for Ethan Nwaneri, which will secure the 17-year-old’s future despite strong interest from other clubs.

Nwaneri is in the final year of his current deal, and while several Premier League and European sides were tracking his situation, his preference has always been to remain at Arsenal. Talks were delayed until he turned 18 in late March, as regulations prevented the club from offering new terms earlier. Since then, discussions have accelerated, with an agreement now close.

According to The Athletic, the contract renewal comes after a breakthrough season for the attacking midfielder. Nwaneri made 37 appearances in 2024–25, scoring nine goals and assisting twice. He often filled in for Bukayo Saka on the right wing during the England international’s injury spell, impressing with his composure and versatility.

Arsenal see Nwaneri as a long-term asset, with plans for him to eventually play a more central role. He is expected to offer cover and competition for club captain Martin Ødegaard next season.

The deal is a major boost for Arsenal, who have invested heavily in youth development under Mikel Arteta. Securing Nwaneri reflects their confidence in his ability to contribute regularly at first-team level.
