Rodrygo set for Real Madrid exit

Real Madrid are open to selling Rodrygo this summer, with new head coach Xabi Alonso aligned with the club’s stance.

The 24-year-old forward has fallen down the pecking order in recent months, featuring just once in Madrid’s last four matches – a brief 23-minute appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Rodrygo struggled for minutes at the end of last season under Carlo Ancelotti, amid reported concerns about his motivation in training. While the player’s representatives deny these claims, the issues saw him omitted from Brazil’s squad for June fixtures at the request of Ancelotti, who has since taken over as national team coach.

According to The Athletic, sources at Madrid say both Alonso and the club would not block Rodrygo’s exit if a suitable offer is made. Though the club publicly maintains they expect him to contribute in the future, his position has been weakened by the prominence of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham.

Rodrygo’s father and agent, Eric Goes, has also expressed frustration over his son’s role at the club. This, combined with inconsistent performances, could pave the way for a summer departure.

Arsenal are among the clubs monitoring his situation and have reportedly held early talks with his representatives. The Gunners are exploring wide attacking options, though interest in other targets like Nico Williams and Anthony Gordon appears to have cooled.

Any big-money move for Rodrygo would likely require Arsenal to sell players to stay within financial regulations.
