Real Madrid agree deal to sign €100m teenage star

Yan Diomande is set to become Real Madrid's newest signing, with the Ivory Coast winger due to complete a move worth over €100 million.

The agreement was finalised over the weekend with the 19-year-old set to travel to Madrid this week to complete his medical before signing a contract running until June 2031.

The move brings an end to a lengthy transfer saga that had also involved Paris Saint-Germain, who reportedly walked away from the deal after refusing to meet Leipzig’s valuation, alongside earlier interest from Liverpool and Arsenal.

Real Madrid had an initial offer of around €100 million turned down before returning with an improved bid closer to Leipzig’s €120 million asking price.

Diomande joined Leipzig from Spanish side Leganes last July and enjoyed a breakout season, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists in the Bundesliga, while also impressing for Ivory Coast at this year’s World Cup.

He becomes Real Madrid’s fifth signing of the summer window, following the arrivals of Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries and Marc Cucurella under new head coach Jose Mourinho.

With Vinicius Junior’s long term future at the club still uncertain, Diomande could find himself thrust into a prominent role in Mourinho’s attack sooner rather than later.
