Partizan advanced from the tie with an 8-5 aggregate win after a 5-2 victory in the return leg in Belgrade, though they were eliminated in the quarter-finals.
The inaugural competition, featuring 16 teams from across Europe, was won by Real Madrid, who beat Stade de Reims in the final at the Parc des Princes in Paris, the first of five consecutive European Cup titles for the Spanish giants.
