Manchester City face Napoli in the group stage, with both teams looking to carry league form into Europe.

Manchester City

City beat Manchester United 3-0 in their last Premier League match. Before that, they lost to Brighton (2-1) and Tottenham (2-0), after wins over Wolves (4-0) and Palermo (3-0) in pre-season. In the Club World Cup, they beat Al Ain (6-0) and Wydad (2-0), but lost to Juventus (5-2) and Al Hilal (4-2).

Napoli

Napoli won 3-1 at Fiorentina in their last Serie A game. They had earlier victories over Cagliari (1-0) and Sassuolo (2-0). Pre-season brought wins over Olympiacos (2-1), Sorrento (4-0) and Girona (3-2), with a 2-1 defeat to Brest and a 1-1 draw with Casertana. Last season ended with draws against Parma (0-0) and Genoa (2-2), plus a 2-0 win over Torino.

Head-to-head

The clubs last met in the 2017 Champions League group stage. City won both matches, 4-2 in Naples and 2-1 in Manchester. In 2011, Napoli won 2-1 at home after a 1-1 draw in England.
