Sundowns take on Arrows in Mpumalanga: DSTV Premiership Buildup

Mamelodi Sundowns vs Golden Arrows

DSTV Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns will travel to the Mpumalanga Stadium to faceoff against Golden Arrows who find themselves in 11th place.

Arrows are sitting on 32 points after 26 games and have not won in their last five matches.  They have earned just three points since their 2-1 win over Richards Bay in late March and were on the receiving end of a humiliating 7-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates in early April. If they were to get three points this evening, they would climb to 8th place on the log,  overtaking Kaizer Chiefs who have played one game more.

Mamelodi Sundowns have not lost a game this season, sitting on 62 points after 24 games.  Sundowns secured their seventh consecutive title after defeating Kaizer Chiefs 5-1 last Thursday.  This may give Arrows a slim opportunity of victory given Sundowns will still be celebrating but the gulf in quality between both squads is still clear.

Despite playing away from home and having already won the title, the bookies still have Mamelodi Sundowns as favourites, with odds of 1.37 for a win.  Golden Arrows have odds of 7.80 for a home win while the odds for a draw are 4.60.

Orlando Pirates vs Chippa United

Orlando Pirates will host Chippa United at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto this evening.  Third placed Pirates are undefeated in seven matches in all competitions, winning their last five in a row, scoring 14 and conceding just three.  A win against Chippa will be vital in the chase for CAF Champions League qualification, with Pirates sitting three points behind Stellenbosch FC.

Both sides met less than a week ago on the 3rd of May in the Nedbank Cup with the Buccaneers coming away with a comfortable 3-1 victory.

Chippa are sitting in 10th place and have taken three defeats on the bounce in all competitions, with their last victory coming in a 2-0 win over Supersport United in the middle of April.

Unsurprisingly Pirates are comfortable favourites going into this match, with odds of 1.39 for a home win.  Chippa United have odds of 7.80 for an unlikely away win while the odds for a draw are 4.30.

Stellenbosch FC vs Amazulu

Stellenbosch FC will be looking to continue their push for second place when they host 12th place Amazulu at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.

Stellenbosch have had a successful season so far, sitting in second spot and leading the race for CAF Champions League qualification.  Stellenbosch are three points ahead of Orlando Pirates but with the sensational form of the Buccaneers, a win this evening is a non-negotiable.

Stellenbosch had a 25 match unbeaten run in all competitions ended by League Champions Mamelodi Sundowns with a 2-1 defeat in the Nedbank Cup Semi-Final.

Amazulu are in an inconsistent run of form, winning two, losing two and drawing one in their past five games in the DSTV Premiership.  If Amazulu were to win this evening they would leap frog Arrows, Chippa and Polokwane City to ninth place.

Stellenbosch FC are the favourites with odds of 1.67 for a home win.  Amazulu have odds of 5.20 for an away win while odds for a draw are 3.45.

Polokwane City vs Richards Bay

Second from bottom Richards Bay face a last push for survival when they travel to The Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane to face ninth placed Polokwane City.

The hosts have won just one of their last five games, a 1-0 win over Cape Town Spurs who sit at the bottom of the table.  Richards Bay’s form is marginally better going into this fixture with three wins in the last five, with wins against Kaizer Chiefs, Swallows and Amazulu.  In their last match they lost to relegation rivals Cape Town Spurs.

Polokwane City may be the home side but they are not viewed as the favourites by the bookies.  Polokwane City have odds of 2.80 for a home win.  Richards Bay have odds of 2.55 for an away win while the odds for a draw are 3.05.
