Ronwen Williams was nominated for the Yashin Trophy last month to become the first goalkeeper to be nominated for the prize while playing for an African club.
Williams’ nomination comes after he made headlines at the Africa Cup of Nations which helped Bafana Bafana win the bronze medal in Ivory Coast earlier this year. He currently leads the Yashin Trophy fan voting poll by 66.5%, followed by Real Madrid’s Andriy Lounine and Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez who are both tied at 12%.
The 68th edition of the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony will take place on October 28 at the grandiose Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, France.
