According to police, a Lamborghini collided with barriers on the M3 southbound near the Minley Interchange at approximately 9am. No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.
The 31-year-old was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs, dangerous driving, possession of a Class C drug and failing to provide a specimen. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Sources close to Sterling told the Press Association the former City and Chelsea winger had been made to feel “worthless” and “forgotten about” in recent times, pointing to “immeasurable” psychological strain following what they described as an “extremely tough couple of years.”
The sources were also keen to stress Sterling was arrested under suspicion and that there is no confirmed proof of anything in his system.
Sterling made his name at Liverpool before joining Manchester City in 2015, where he won four Premier League titles and the FA Cup. He moved to Chelsea in 2022, spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Arsenal and most recently played eight times for Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie after joining on a short-term deal in February.
He earned 82 England caps, scoring 20 goals and featuring in the 2018 World Cup semi-finals and the Euro 2020 final.
