Saffas Abroad: Mailula bids farewell to Wydad AC

Former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker and Toronto FC player Cassius Mailula has decided to leave Wydad Athletic Club following the end of his loan spell with the Moroccan side.

Mailula (24) has sent a message bidding farewell to Wydad Athletic club after spending a year on loan from Major Soccer League club Toronto FC. The South African center-forwad joined Wydad AC on August 21, 2024 and his contract expires on July 31st 2025.

In that year of play along fellow countryman Thembiknosi Lorch, he made 36 appearances, netting six goals with seven assisted provided. Mailula featured in the club’s FIFA Club World Cup fixtures against Manchester City, Juventus and scored a goal against Al Ain who were drawn in the same Group G.

His decision to leave the Red Castle comes after the Moroccan side failed to make it out of the Club World Cup group stages with no points/wins to their name in three games.

Mailula will not be part of the Botola Pro League side for next season as he decides further on his future. Mailula in his farewell message said, “Dear Wydad family, it is with a heavy heart that I write this message, as I want to let you all know that I will not be continuing with the team for the upcoming season.”

“My time with Wydad has been an incredibly special and rewarding experience, and I will forever be grateful for it.”

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. From the security staff to the technical team, to my teammates, your kindness and support have meant the world to me,” Mailula added.

“You all hold a very special place in my heart. I must also thank the president for giving me the incredible opportunity to represent Wydad, and coach Rulani Mokwena for his unwavering belief in me.”

“Without his trust, I wouldn’t be the player I am today. I wish the club, the fans, and everyone involved nothing but continued success in the upcoming season and beyond. Dima Wydad,” he concluded.
