Ndlondlo leads Marumo’s four-goal romp against Stellies

Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo scored twice as Carling Knockout giant killers Marumo Gallants trounced Stellenbosch 4-0 on Wednesday in a rain-drenched quarter-final.

Ndlondlo struck in each half in central city Bloemfontein before goals from Monde Mphambaniso and Edgar Manaka completed the rout for Marumo, who stunned Mamelodi Sundowns in the previous round.

The first Ndlondlo goal after 28 minutes should have been disallowed as he was clearly offside before beating goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke at his near post with a low shot from a tight angle.

There was an element of luck about the second goal as a blocked shot by Ndlondlo rebounded to him and he steered the ball into the corner of the net on 51 minutes.

Stellenbosch struggled in the increasingly difficult conditions after falling two goals behind and were overwhelmed in the closing stages.

“This victory was a long time coming as we have been playing well without scoring many goals,” said Ndlondlo after receiving the R100,000 player of the match award.

Stellenbosch conceded four goals after scoring four in each of their last two matches, a league win over Golden Arrows and a CAF Confederation Cup victory over !5 de Agosto from Equatorial Guinea.
