England international Ivan Toney has been charged with assault following an incident at a Soho nightclub, The Athletic reports.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed on Friday that the 30-year-old has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm and is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 24 September.
The alleged incident took place at a nightclub on Wardour Street on 6 December, with Toney initially arrested the following day and released on bail while enquiries continued.
A spokesperson for Toney told The Athletic: “Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court.”
Toney featured for England at this summer’s World Cup and currently plays his club football for Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia.
The bulk of his career was spent in England, coming through the youth ranks at Northampton Town before spells at Newcastle United and Peterborough United.
He’s best remembered for four prolific years at Brentford, where he scored 72 goals in 141 appearances and topped the Championship’s scoring charts as they won promotion via the play-offs in 2020-21, before his move to Saudi Arabia in 2024.
