Kaizer Chiefs’ inconsistent form in the Betway Premiership continued with a 1–1 draw against Marumo Gallants at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday.
The result leaves Amakhosi without back-to-back league wins this season, while Gallants collected a valuable away point.
Chiefs took the lead in the 39th minute through debutant Khanyisa Mayo, who converted from close range after Ashley Du Preez created the opening with a pass across goal.
The home side had an opportunity to double their advantage before halftime when they were awarded a penalty, but Washington Arubi denied Gaston Sirino from the spot.
Gallants equalised in the 75th minute through Jaison Clifford, whose curling effort from the edge of the area beat Brandon Petersen. It was one of Gallants’ few clear opportunities in the second half, as Chiefs had dominated possession following the restart.
The match began with early chances at both ends. Du Preez saw a shot blocked inside the opening minute, while Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo tested Petersen with a long-range attempt that went wide. Chiefs controlled possession for much of the first half, but Gallants posed threats through Bheki Mabuza and Daniel Msendami, although neither managed to convert.
In the closing stages, Chiefs pressed for a winner. Thabo Cele came closest with a strike from distance that went narrowly wide, but Gallants held firm to secure a draw.
The result keeps Chiefs mid-table, underlining the challenge of finding consistency early in the campaign. Gallants remain near the lower half but demonstrated resilience to recover from a deficit away from home.
